My front porch décor is complete! Well, maybe I have one other small project I want to tackle… that’s just how my brain works. My family and I have been using this outdoor couch for the last couple of weeks and I’m excited to share the project with you!

This outdoor couch, or maybe better called loveseat/bench, is incredibly simple to put together even for a beginner. All you need is a saw and a drill!
I built my outdoor couch using plans from Ana White. She is an amazing builder and has plans for pretty much anything you’d need for a home! You can find the original plans by Ana White here .

The original outdoor couch plans by Ana White are for a much larger outdoor couch, but I wanted to create one for my front porch. I tailored my measurements to fit my space, and it worked out so that the outdoor bench cushion I bought fit perfectly on the seat!
Heres what I bought for the project:
My cut list:
7 - 2x4 @ 46 inches
8 - 2x4 @ 17 inches
4 - 2x4 @ 24 inches
2 - 2x4 @ 20 inches
Step 1: Attach 4 - 17 inch 2x4s to 2 - 46 inch pieces to create the seat frame
Step 2: Make arms by attaching one 20 inch 2x4 to two 24 inch pieces (creating a U shape)
Step 3: Attach 2 more 17 inch pieces at 14 inches from the bottom
Step 4: Connect the seat frame to the arms
Step 5: Attach the seat boards (4 -46 inch 2x4s) to the top of the seat frame
Step 6: Attach the last 46 inch piece to the arms to create a backpiece
I used pocket holes for this step and ended up using a 2x3 because I messed up one of my 2x4 cuts.
I decided to use stain to finish my outdoor couch. I used a walnut gel stain that I had on hand from my wooden lantern diy. The finished couch dimensions are 53 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and 24 inches tall.
I spent about $45 on materials for this project (including the wood, screws, and varnish). I did of course purchase the bench cushion, it was $25 at Walmart. I had everything else on hand! I am looking forward to lots of summer days on my porch!
