Casual Thanksgiving Tablescape From The Dollar Tree

Our family does not do fancy holiday dinners, and when I found out my in-laws (or in-loves as we say) were coming to town for Thanksgiving I wanted to dress up the table just a little with it being our first time hosting in the new house. But when I searched on pinterest for Thanksgiving tablescapes I came up short in the casual category.

I had been eyeing these faux wood chargers on the Dollar Tree website for a while and was ecstatic when I found them in one of my local stores a few weeks ago! I consider myself a rebel when it comes to decorating, so I went with black stoneware dinner plates instead of the traditional white. These are great quality dishes for just $1!

During the same shopping trip of my wood look charger discovery, I was pleasantly surprised to also find some fall melamine salad plates that matched perfectly with my fall décor color scheme. The pumpkin design and script lettered word on the plate creates a beautiful contrast against the black dinner plate! And what could be easier than paper napkins?! Did I mention this is going to be a casual thanksgiving dinner? No fuss no frills, just family and fun.

I thought it would be fun to use a roll of wrapping paper as my table runner, which now that I think of it will also help with easy cleanup. I found this roll of brown paper with white polka dots at, you guessed it, Dollar Tree!

I also bought a set of six stemless wine glasses from Dollar Tree, but silly me forgot to add them to the tablescape and didn’t realize until after I had put everything away! Just so you know, we will have glasses to drink from.

How to set up a casual place setting:

  1. Place a charger or placemat

  2. Add a dinner plate

  3. Add a salad plate or soup bowl

  4. Add utensils and a napkin

Sit down and enjoy your casual thanksgiving dinner!

My fall centerpiece is a simple recycled glass vase with a couple of faux wheat grass stems that I got on sale at Hobby Lobby. To add a touch more color to my Thanksgiving table decorations, I added a small candle on either side of the centerpiece along with some ceramic and foam pumpkins I have around the house.

When all was said and done, I spent a total of $26 dollars for 6 place settings! That includes the chargers, dinner plates, salad plates, napkins and table runner. Yes, it is possible to get inexpensive Thanksgiving table decorations without going for paper and plastic (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Now I’m looking forward to planning the menu!
