Interchangeable Home Sign Diy Using Cricut Maker and Knife Blade

We all have that one wall in our homes that we want to decorate for each season. Or maybe it’s just me! I wanted to take the pressure off of having to figure out what to put on this wall each season. Well, if you are like me, I’m sharing how I made this interchangeable home sign using my Cricut maker and knife blade.

I’m not the first to create and interchangeable seasonal sign. I’ve seen plenty of wood signs with the words Home or Welcome that have decorative pieces to replace the O in the word. Because many of the diy signs I’ve come across have had similar designs, I wanted mine to be unique, which every home should be.

Supplies needed for this interchangeable sign:

Craft products:

  • Chipboard (I used Cricut brand 2 mm)

  • Scrapbook paper (I like to get the single sheets of patterned paper from Hobby Lobby @4/$1)

  • Felt

  • Assorted faux florals

  • Colorful wood beads (available at Dollar Tree)

  • Jute twine

  • Mod Podge

  • Chalk paint

  • Hot glue

Tools:

  • Cricut Maker

  • Knife blade

  • Craft Knife (the Penblade is my favorite)

  • Glue gun

  • Scissors

Each of my interchangeable pieces uses chipboard as the base material.

I didn’t wanted to be constrained to a certain width for my interchangeable pieces, so I used single wood letters (H, M and E) to create my sign. These are 8 inch letters that I got at Walmart and spray painted black using a matte black paint by Rustoleum. My advice after painting these is DO NOT USE SPRAY PAINT! As you can see in the picture above the finish left an inconsistent finish, even after several applications. It may be due to the mdf material of the letters, but I’m not sure. I would suggest using a chalk paint instead.

Winter Mittens:

I used image #M3C961 in Cricut design space for this set of mittens. Once the pieces were cut from the chipboard, I covered each piece with this black and white buffalo plaid scrapbook paper using Mod Podge. I added a doubled piece of white felt for the cuffs using hot glue. I finished each piece using jute twine to create a border around each mitten.

Spring Floral/Greenery Wreath:

The base of this wreath is called flower bouquet in design space and is image #MB96024E. For this image I had to do some contouring and welding in Cricut design space in order to get a sinlge piece to cut. (If your interested in a more detailed tutorial for design space leave me a comment.) I simply used pieces of floral and greenery picks I had in my craft stash and lots of hot glue to get this look.

Summer Flip Flops:

This design space image is called Flip Flops Brazil Large and is #MCD06E94. I used black chalk paint for the base of each sandal. For the straps I used Dollar Tree wood beads which I strung onto a pipe cleaner to get a 3D effect. The excess pipe cleaner is folded onto the back and secured with hot glue.

Fall Pumpkin:

For my fall pumpkin I used image #M8A1D3E1. I used a galvanized printed scrapbook paper for this pumpkin which works perfectly with my rustic home decor. This image is in several separate pieces but was easy to turn into one using a large craft stick from Walmart. I simply painted the craft stick with a silver acrylic paint so it would blend in with the color of the paper. I attached each pumpkin piece using hot glue and leaving the spaces as in the design space image.

I think the best part of these diy decor pieces is the small space footprint. Who doesn’t love saving on storage space?! And now I don’t have to think about what I’m going to put up on this wall each season. Winning! 😉
