Console Table Ikea Hack

After an exhaustive search for a small console table, I came up empty. You'd think that finding a small, simple table would be and easy task! I found plenty of oversized tables, but nothing suited for the space I wanted mine. So, what else to do but make my own of course. Here is my diy ikea hack console table.

Since I've been on an upcycling kick lately, I went to the wood pile in my basement and found the perfect board that just happened to be the exact the size I needed.

Other supplies used:

  • 2 Adils table legs from Ikea (in beige)
  • 1 Ikea furniture wall anchor kit
  • drywall anchor/screws
  • Tools - drill/drill bits, level, screwdriver, pencil, ruler/measuring tape

1. To start I cleaned up the board (which measures 2x8x36 inches) by sanding, staining, and sealing it. For more details staining, check out my diy bathroom shelves.

2. Next, I positioned the legs with the board on top and made sure it was level before attaching the legs.

3. I marked the holes where the screws attach, then flipped it over and screwed the legs on following the Ikea instructions.

4. When the legs were secure, I placed it against the wall again and measured to find the center of the board where I would attach the wall anchor.

 - I got the idea to attach it to the wall from Pinterest.

5. I then attached the anchor to the wall, (using a drywall anchor and screw) and then to the table bottom to secure. I made sure to use the level again while doing this.

 - You could use more than one wall anchor, but I didn't feel it necessary because I won't have any heavy item on top.

And now we have a dedicated space to drop our keys so they aren't lost under a weeks worth of mail (in the mail basket)! Best of all, this table cost me under $15 to make!

Of course you could also make this using Ikea floating shelves, or any premade shelf.
