Diy Canvas Wall Art with Pom Poms

It's time for the #diyblogchallenge, and this month's supply to use was pom poms. Since I'd put together the

mini gallery wall

for my daughters, I realized that my son's bedroom walls were also bare. This 4 piece canvas wall art set is the perfect addition to the wall behind his bed.

This project was super simple, and was made even easier by my newest crafting tool the

Cricut Maker

! I was soo excited to start using this machine, and I must say it surely did not disappoint.

Ok, now on to the project:

These are the supplies I used

  • 4 Dollar Tree art canvases
  • Paint ( the colors I  used are folkart chalk paint -Maui Sand (grey), and Apple Barrel acrylic paint in Cool Blue and Kiwi)
  • 3 different colored pom poms
  • Mod Podge
  • Craft glue/ hot glue
  • Brushes

The first step was to paint the canvases. You'll see I goofed on the colors and switched them up halfway through. To get good coverage, I applied 2 coats of the chalk paint and 3 to 4 coats of the acrylic.

While the paint was drying I put the Cricut to work. I created a vinyl stencil of the letter J (for his first name), and did a print then cut (that's just fancy Cricut lingo that means loading an image into the design software to be printed and cut precisely) image of his favorite cartoon character.

He loves Daniel Tiger! For the moment...

After the paint was completely dry, I pasted the image onto on canvas using mod podge. I applied 2 top coats to seal it.

Using the

pom poms

, I decided to create a striped pattern for the letter. I started out using craft glue, but got impatient with the drying time and switched to hot glue, adding a row at a time.

These tiny pom poms are the cutest!

I hung these on the wall using mini clear command hooks.
